From prototype to product

HJÄRTA S1 Professional is VulcanGuard's first production product for retrofitting existing installations with IoT. It connects existing sensors, contacts and technical signals with VAKTEN and turns them into understandable states.

The controlled first series is manually manufactured, tested and documented in Germany. Matching sensor boxes and pre-assembled M12 connection cables are available directly from the VulcanGuard shop.

Retrofit instead of replacement. Visibility instead of blind spots.

What is it for?

Many installations already provide signals. Doors, gates, contacts, states and tasks are already there – but usually in a form that offers little help in everyday operation.

This is exactly where VulcanGuard begins.

Our goal is to make hidden existing installations visible. To create clarity about states and tasks. Not with more noise, but with simple clarity. Not with technology for its own sake, but with an alert view of what truly matters in operation.

How often do doors remain open outside their intended state?
How long does this go unnoticed?

VAKTEN already provides this evaluation logic today. States can be captured digitally, tasks can be classified more clearly, and inspection and maintenance histories can be kept in an understandable way.

For operators of larger installations, this means one thing above all: fewer blind spots, more overview – and a calmer hand in day-to-day operation.

How can VAKTEN and HJÄRTA be used?

Supermarket

HJÄRTA captures central points using simple contact sensors: entrance doors, cooling areas and emergency exits. Light barriers can additionally be used at bottle return systems or conveyor sections.

Typical data includes:

  • closed or open states of doors and gates,
  • occupancy and throughput of conveyor technology,
  • blockages at transfer points,
  • temperature curves in cooling areas.

In VAKTEN, the operator defines when a target state is no longer fulfilled.

Example:
A cold-room door remains open. HJÄRTA detects the state and VAKTEN displays the deviation. If the temperature then rises, a further notice is generated.

The operator decides whether and when responsible persons are notified.

No training effort. No major installation effort.

For this scenario, one HJÄRTA with suitable sensors is often sufficient.

Result: clarity, available at any time.

Hospitals

The technical service wants to monitor the states of several wards.

Example:
Several smoke-control closures or fire doors per ward are equipped with decentralised hold-open systems. In practice, doors are sometimes held open or wedged improperly.

HJÄRTA makes this state visible.

One possible setup:

  • one HJÄRTA per ward or technical area,
  • connection of existing documented signalling contacts by qualified personnel,
  • alternatively, additional sensor boxes via Easy Access,
  • definition of the expected state in VAKTEN.

VAKTEN shows deviations and can report them on request.

Result:
Fewer local inspection rounds.
More overview of the actual state.

Small and medium-sized manufacturing

In many production environments, different systems come together: hall gates, fire protection closures, conveyor technology, transfer points and shipping areas.

A typical situation is that states exist – but are not visible at a glance.

A gate remains open although it should be closed.
A conveyor section is blocked.
A transfer point is not running correctly.
A machine sends a simple operating or fault signal.

Downtime is often only noticed once it has already cost time and money.

This is exactly where HJÄRTA can be used.

Possible data points include:

  • gate states – open or closed,
  • occupancy of conveyor sections – free or blocked,
  • activity at transfer points,
  • simple machine signals – running or stopped,
  • fault and status messages from existing systems.

VAKTEN turns these signals into understandable processes. The operator defines when a state is normal and when action is required.

Examples:

  • conveyor section occupied for an unusually long time → notice,
  • gate remains open too long → message,
  • transfer point without activity → possible standstill.

Result:
Faults are no longer searched for, but seen.
Processes become traceable.
Reactions become faster.

For many applications, one HJÄRTA per area with suitable sensors is sufficient. The effort remains low – the gain in overview is immediately noticeable.

Why HJÄRTA S1 Professional?

The Professional channels can be allocated freely according to the existing installation. Possible configurations include ten individual status signals, five installations with two separate messages each, or any combination of door contacts, light barriers, machine signals and fault messages.

HJÄRTA does not impose fixed semantics. In VAKTEN, you define whether a channel represents a door, a gate, a light barrier, a temperature point or another technical state.

A system rather than a single device

HJÄRTA S1 Professional is part of a complete retrofit system. The VulcanGuard shop offers suitable sensor boxes for reed contacts, proximity detection, light barriers and temperature measurement.

Pre-assembled M12 connection cables are available in lengths of 1, 2, 5 and 10 metres.

This allows an existing installation to become digitally visible step by step – from a single sensor point to more complex applications.

Will HJÄRTA continue to evolve?

HJÄRTA S1 Professional marks the beginning of a product family designed for long-term development. The hardware is intentionally designed for many years of use.

Most further development takes place through firmware and software. Functions, evaluations and visualisations can grow without requiring the entire hardware platform to be replaced.

Anyone purchasing HJÄRTA S1 Professional receives a stable technical foundation on which VAKTEN will continue to grow.

The controlled first series mainly means direct contact with the manufacturer, fast support and short communication paths for setup, operation and troubleshooting – by phone, email and, where required, on site.

Upcoming capabilities – already prepared technically

  • Bus and cluster systems: RS-485 and CAN are prepared for future professional extensions.
  • Local solutions: applications without mandatory cloud connection can be implemented on a project basis.
  • Additional languages: VAKTEN is multilingual by design and can be extended.
  • New evaluation modes: state, logistics and cold-chain functions will continue to grow through software.
